Geist Lake Coalition
About us...

What the heck is a Geist Lake Coalition?
It is a nonprofit coalition of the neighborhoods surrounding Geist Lake.

What is the Coalition's reason for being ?
The Coalition's Mission Statement:
The Geist Lake Coalition is committed to providing safe and responsible recreational use of Geist Lake by all constituencies and to the preservation and improvement of land values and quality of life for all Geist Lake neighborhood residents through responsible stewardship of Geist Lake's resources.

Who needs a Geist Lake Coalition anyway?
Any homeowner or user of Geist Lake should take an interest in the Coalition. While your neighborhood associations deal with issues on the land, the Coalition is devoted to issues that arise specifically from the usage of Geist Lake. The goal of the Coalition is to provide an organized forum for addressing issues that are unique to lake living.

From whence did the Coalition come?
The finest bloodlines.
The Geist Lake Coalition actually evolved from an entity known as the Geist Harbours Property Owners Association (GHPOA) Lake Committee. The Lake Committee had been formed almost 10 years ago to address problems and concerns that GHPOA homeowners had with respect to Geist Lake. GHPOA represents approximately 2500 homeowners in most of the neighborhoods on the south end of the Lake such as the Admirals, Feather Cove, Masthead, Beamreach, Diamond Pointe and others. As development around the Lake advanced, it was discovered that other neighborhoods were facing many of the same questions, problems and issues that the Lake Committee had tackled. In order to be more effective at disseminating information and to give everyone a forum for expressing opinions on usage of the Lake, the Coalition was formed to include not just GHPOA neighborhoods, but any neighborhood with waterfront property.

Who runs this thing?
The Coalition is structured with 3 Directors, a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and three Committee Chairs and voting members.
All of these individuals are volunteers from their neighborhoods who have a keen interest in carrying out the mission statement of the Coalition.
See our Coalition Staff page.

Is the Coalition a shadowy, secret organization?
Nope. We meet regularly at the Marina Sales office. Meetings are generally scheduled for the second Tuesday of every month at 7 PM. You are welcome to attend any of these meetings as an observer, HOWEVER, if you wish to bring up an issue or have the Coalition consider a request, you will need to contact the president at least 1 week prior to the meeting to get on the agenda.

Does the Coalition have broad, sweeping dictatorial powers?
Think United Nations only without a Security Council or money. The Coalition has no legislative, governmental, association or any other authority. We attempt to effect change through dissemination of information. For instance, we publish a must-have full color, digital map of the Lake with idle zones, shallow areas and underwater obstacles that we are aware of marked on the map. It also contains a summary of some of Indiana's boating regulations. Our predecessor organization was responsible for the creation and placement of the signs at the Marina and Olio Road launch ramps that summarize some of Indiana's boating regulations. We maintain a Web site, www.geistlake.org, that is an excellent resource for all kinds of boating information. We also provide a forum for law enforcement, fire and rescue departments, businesses and homeowners to exchange information about issues affecting the Lake and ways that any problems may be resolved.

Safety is our main focus and we will be involved in publicizing safety programs, accident statistics for the Lake, safety hints and any other information we believe may help a user of the Lake become more safety conscious. This information will be contained in an entertaining, Quarterly newsletter.
